1200 Rich Girls Drive over $1 billion of India’s $9 billion Luxury Goods Market

As per a recent Assocham survey 1200 ‘Richie Rich’ women of Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pune and Ahmedabad are behind the huge consumption of luxury goods in India. While releasing the report on rise of consumption of luxury goods due to affluent women emerging as buyers DS Rawat the Secretary General of Assocham says “ Working women or women with an active life have better spending propensity and are thus conscious of their appearance and are open to investing in luxury products." When asked what is their contribution to the product sales, Assocham secretary confirmed that their buying is worth more than a billion dollar and amounts to nearly 15% of the luxury market purchases. That means that these super rich ladies of India did an average buying of luxury goods worth a whopping $ 1.125 million per person I am sure the the Income Tax department is listening ….but wait ! Who are these women? Sorry IT sleuths, they are not the black market types any more. As a matter of fact a large number of them are professionals.Many of these women have arrived into the C class as executives of multinational companies and many of them are business magnates. 20% of the women surveyed said that they were high income bracket earners and loved to splurge.
