Virtual walking tours of the grave

When there is Google there is nothing to worry about. Google is now mapping the Arlington National Cemetery such that you can pay homage to your fore father from your house itself. Google is using its product, Google Street View, to archive images of the military cemetery and other panoramas which are spread over 624 acres.

The cemetery houses more than 400,000 active duty service members, veterans and their families. Among those buried at the cemetery are President John F. Kennedy, President William Howard Taft and 12 Supreme Court Justices. Google is using the same product it used to map 100 monuments in India and the Galapagos Islands for its street view.

Although the idea and concept might lure a large number of national devotees but Google will only be able to archive the current cemeteries and further additions to them might not be possible. The cemetery houses around 7,000 funerals per year.

The product shall be available by May 2014 which shall also commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Arlington National Cemetery.
