Google Honors Lincoln’s Gettysburg Speech

Google is known for finding innovative ways for showing its appreciation to inspiring personalities and events. This time, Google has built a digital museum to commemorate the US President Abraham Lincoln’s inspirational speech at the Battle of Gettysburg and pay homage to the great American leader.

150 years ago, Abraham Lincoln gave a two minute speech at the Battle of Gettysburg, a civil war in which Union troops defeated the Confederacy, and changed the course of the war. Lincoln’s words on such an occasion transformed the war into a fight for human equality.

Since that very day, Lincoln’s words have been inspired many books and have been represented in golden letters across the country. On November 19, 2013, 150th anniversary of the speech was made, Google decided to pay its respect to this inspiring event.

The digital museum exhibit shows trivia and exhibits related to the speech and the events at Gettysburg, the text of the speech and what the address inspired in people. The information shown in the exhibits by Google was a result of exhaustive search in Library of Congress, the White House, the Lincoln Library, Cornell University and Dickinson College. The digital exhibit is now a part of the Google’s cultural institute that houses many such exhibits from different parts of the globe.
