Katie Couric, the former Today and CBS newscaster, will join as Yahoo’s ‘Global Anchor’ in 2014. According to Yahoo’s official blog post, “Katie will lead a growing team of correspondents at Yahoo News who will cover the world’s most interesting stories and newsmakers.”
According to the Yahoo’s CEO, Marissa Mayer, Katie shall be the ‘face of Yahoo News.’ She has also worked with Yahoo on a limited basis with a feature called ‘Katie’s Take’ for Yahoo News that includes interviews with celebrities.
Yahoo is trying its best to make a come back and fight its competitors. Not long ago, it redesigned its email structure and added certain new features to it. Yahoo is now also trying to make its info services strong by providing them with a stable base. Katie’s vivid experience in the media industry will help her reform the structure of Yahoo News for an enhanced user experience.
Yahoo has increased the number of news correspondents in its team and is focusing on providing first hand information to all its users. It seems as though Yahoo is shifting its focus from search and email services to information dissemination.
