Twitter will now also support emergency alerts according to the company’s latest blogpost. There are in total 57 Governmental Agencies that have agreed to join the Twitter alert program.
In this program, when any participating agency tweets with a hashtag ‘#alerts”, the tweet will be accompanied by an orange bell. This is a graphical addition to the site which will highlight the urgency of the message.
In order to sign up for this service user will need to fill up a form in the participating agency’s twitter account. You can also get this service via push messages but then the user’s number will be visible to other users on Twitter until you change the settings.
Social Networking sites are becoming the most responsive ways to reach out to people and share any information. So with Twitter alert, the government agencies can create a faster response to emergency information broadcasts. Twitter is truly changing the paradigm of social media.
