Flickr follows Yahoo mail outage

Flickr, Yahoo’s photo sharing app temporarily crashed on December 12, 2013. Users worldwide were unable to access the website for 10 minutes or more. Already, Yahoo mail users has been facing the same outage since December 9.

The site showed its signature ‘Bad Panda’ error message for some users, while others were told that the site couldn’t load due to ‘inactivity timeout’. “Flickr was unavailable for a very short amount of time and this issue has been resolved. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. The Flickr outage is not related to the Mail issue,” a Yahoo spokesperson said.

The timing couldnt be worse when two of the most used platforms of Yahoo went down together. Although the Flickr issue was resolved quickly, Yahoo is still trying to rebound from a hardware issue at one of its mail data center.

Yahoo’s blog on December 11,2013 said that it delivered over 30% of messages sent during the outage. It also said some users started experiencing email issues as far back as November 25.

Yahoo has apologized for the inconvenience caused and are trying to restore IMAP and POP access for users so that they could check their mails using Outlook or other app.

The anger in users is bursting. The issue may be temporary, but the damage will be permanent.
