Pinterest to overpower Facebook and Twitter

Recent studies reveal that users are sharing newsworthy content freely via Pinterest and the number of shares have marginally grown. 20% of all news related content shared on social networking websites in the third quarter was shared on Pinterest. Facebook and Twitter though maintained leads with 40% and 30% respectively in the category, but Pinterest gained some ground after accounting for 18% of media and publishing shares in second quarter.

The Pew Research Centre study had revealed that majority of Americans use Facebook to gather news and stay updated with the things going on under the sun. It seems that Pinterest is all set the surpass that research and change the way everything was working until now.

Pinterest was able to rule the charts when it came to e-commerce related information with a percentage of 44 which comes out to be more than any other platform. A share means that a user used a page’s share plugin or clicked on the “share” button, which is mostly located near the top of the page. It is found that the pinterest plug in is incorporated in many more sites and is leading to a way more number of shares.

With new features like article pins, users have a better incentive to upload and share articles. Articles posted to the site now include more details like the title, author and short description of the article. So it seems that soon the website will be able to overpower the two social media gaints.
