Twitter users will now have the ability to blindfold themselves to the users they don’t like. Now, you can simply block other users such that you will not be able to see their tweets even though the tweets would be active on the platform. Earlier users could block any other user and then the later could not have interacted with blocker’s tweet or mention them either.
Twitter announced the feature in their blog on December 12, 2013, “If your account is public, blocking a user does not prevent that user from following you, interacting with your Tweets, or receiving your updates in their timeline,” the company says in its amended “blocking users on Twitter.” According to a spokesperson the change in the feature had been made because, “people would see they had been blocked and get mad,” resulting in “antagonistic behavior.”
The new as well as the old feature have their own chunk of comments and dislikes, some wish the older service to be retained such that certain users could be completely blocked and some think that the new initiative is worth giving a try.
Just a few hours back owing to the widescale disagreement of users with Twitter’s new feature, the company has reverted the change and once again everything is like it was. As before users will once again be able to block another user and the blocked person will not be able to interact with him. The blog post that made this announcement says, ‘Earlier today, we made a change to the way the “block” function of Twitter works. We have decided to revert the change after receiving feedback from many users – we never want to introduce features at the cost of users feeling less safe. Any blocks you had previously instituted are still in effect.’
