On December 12, 2013 in New York city, Instagram unveiled its new update Instagram Direct at a mystery press conference As many in experts in the social media industry expected, it is a direct messaging and photo sharing app that allows a user to share a particular picture with some specific group or a single user on the platform.
The app is now available for Android and iOS . This is Instagram’s giant step towards becoming the ultimate photo-sharing site and can be considered as Facebook’s first blow to Snapchat for rejecting their $4 Billion offer.
With this app you will also have the ability to share images and photographs with users whom you do not follow or who do not follow you. Now, when a user who does not follow you sends you a picture, it will go to Instagram Direct Inbox awaiting your approval to remove its Pending status. You can send an Instagram Direct to as much as 15 users at once. Private pictures can also be shared with a particular group of people. Most commonly and frequently used groups can be saved and used.
You can use the Facebook Connect to find your Facebook friends on Instagram, but the two groups and services are still separate. This new service has brought the app a bit closer to Snapchat.
