George Bush Senior is on Twitter. George H.W.Bush becomes the third U.S. President to join Twitter after President Barack Obama and President Bill Clinton. He created his account on December 10, 2013. As expected, the account got verified within minutes and was confirmed to be the former President’s account by his son and other spokesperson.
Within a day of its creation, the account has got a 40,000+ followers. The former President is currently following his son, former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush and daughter-in-law, former First Lady Laura Bush among others.
The first tweet made by Bush was to express his sadness and grief for not being able to accompany the delegation to South Africa to attend President Mandela’s memorial service.
Bush Senior seems to have beaten his son, George W. Bush, to Twitter, also becoming the first Republican President to join Twitter.
The increasing presence of political leaders acknowledges the fact that the impact of social media on the society has increased to such an extent that even the retired politician are joining the social networking sites.
