Is Snapchat the new Marketing hub?

No doubt that Snapchat remains one of the fastest growing social media app that is considered to have a lot of potential which can help a marketer to promote his brand nicely and effectively. The recent addition of the HBO fame ‘Girls’ is itself a demarcation of the fact that Snapchat is being seen as a prospective channel for advertising on the social media domain.

Of course it is way different from the usual promotions on Twitter and Facebook, the stories feature has particularly captured the attention of many brands. According to Sabrina Caluori, VP of social media and marketing at HBO. “”I think it was the launch of the Stories feature that really solidified for us that there was a way to use this platform as marketers. Prior to the launch of that, we struggled to come up with creatives that could be impactful.”

Although slow, brands have now started to embrace the platform with few of them who started using it in the early months of 2013 like Taco Bell and 16 handles. The stories feature has been exploited by the brands the most. The New Orleans Saints use the Stories feature to share behind-the-scenes footage of its games. Taco Bell has used it to share funny sequences of people making taco runs. Juicy Couture turned to Snapchat to preview collections and highlight photo shoots. Seventeen, which joined last month, brings in celebrities like One Direction to engage with fans from its account.

Even though brands are showing a keen interest in the platform a lot of amendments are still to be made to make sure that it becomes suitable for advertising and marketing purposes. Paying attention towards the facts and figures provided to an advertise, apart from knowing whether their posts are viewed or not, Snapchat provides no data for individual posts. This might act as a negative point as its counterparts provide features like retweets, followers, likes, shares, people talking about, hashtags etc.

According to certain experts brands are creating their accounts on Snapchat because it is one of the trending things to do as of now, there is an increasing user base experienced and because more attention needs to be paid to each posts here. Little changes and the platform might just become the new marketing hub of the social media.

All the best Snapchat! :)
