There is nothing new in brands using the memories of special days for their marketing practices. SpheggatiO’s used the tragic pearl harbour disaster in a dubious tweet that raised a concern on the social media. This time its ZzzQuil, an over-the-counter cold medication/soporific from Vicks that used a tweet on the Martin Luther King day to market the brand.
The tweet was based on the king’s famous speech ‘I have a dream’.
Today is the day for dreaming. Happy MLK Day.

Just after the tweet was made users following the brand and other who read it showcased their dislike towards the tweet. As expected the apology for the tweet along with an explanation was then posted by ZzzQuil.
@giotaurus We weren’t making a joke. It was to acknowledge the day and the man. We didn’t intend to offend. — ZzzQuil (@ZzzQuil) January 20, 2014
The use of such events and then apologising for the same is being done quite often now a days. What do you think, is it right or wrong? Share your views in the comments section below.
