Tech Companies in the US have got a chance to adopt a more transparent approach. After the petition filed by some of the tech companies, the Department of Justice said it will grant the request of top tech companies who had previously petitioned the government for the ability to provide more detailed transparency reports on government-issued national security orders for user data.
The number of national security orders have reduced and Obama has given directions to release the internet and phone companies from certain reforms made by the NSA.Attorney General Eric Holder and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper talked about the agreement and said, “Through these new reporting methods, communications providers will be permitted to disclose more information than ever before to their customers.”
Top social media companies like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Linkedin, Microsoft had formed a secretive FISA wherein the petitions were filed for a more transparent approach. The same institutions will also help the Obama administration to implement reforms to government surveillance, which they say are hindering their businesses.
Now with a different approach it is an easy game for the companies as they can present their data in any way they want as and when required by the Government or on their orders.A minimum period of 6 months will be given to each company to produce the data that is required from them. There are many other norms and regulations that are formulated specifically for these companies that can be read here.
