Snapchat apologises for the breach of privacy

Remember when Snapchat’s database was hacked. All the information containing usernames of people were uploaded on a separate website which was for public use. Well Snapchat never apologised to the breach of privacy that the users of the popular app on social media went through.

It seems that the CEO of the company had something in mind all this while. The company released an update on 9th January in response to the breach that exposed millions of user accounts at the start of the new year.

This update gives the users an option to opt out of having their phone numbers linked to their user names as part of the Find Friends feature. The blog post that announced the update also apologised to its users. The blog post read, “Our team continues to make improvements to the Snapchat service to prevent future attempts to abuse our API. We are sorry for any problems this issue may have caused you and we really appreciate your patience and support.”

Though the situation was brought under control, the loss of data of 4.6 million accounts is a big deal and it is important that the company keeps a thorough check on the security of its users credentials and other informations.
