Martin Luther King- Lost Recordings Found

The best way to remember the great leader on the MLK day is by listening to some of the great speeches that he gave which still have the power to instill and inspire people. Martin Luther King’s I have a dream is one of the most famous speeches that he delivered. Time and again it has been repeated and referred to.

The once-lost audio reveals a speech that King delivered to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation in 1962. The New York State Museum rediscovered the speech on reel-to-reel magnetic tape, and uploaded it to YouTube on Monday such that all followers of the great man could hear him on the social media. According to the officials of the museum, this is the only known recording of the speech.

Enoch Squires, a research associate for the commission, recorded the speech. King’s speech was one of about 400 reel-to-reel audio recordings that Squires’ widow donated to the museum in 1979.

As per Merryl Tisch, chancellor of the state Board of Regents, “This is a remarkable treasure. More than 50 years later, Dr. King’s voice has come back to life.” The speech has been a benchmark for the Americans. He had said, two American documents, the Emancipation Proclamation and the Declaration of Independence, have been invaluable contributions to civilization. “All tyrants, past, present and future, are powerless to bury the truths in these declarations, no matter how extensive their legions, how vast their power and how malignant their evil.”
